Dr. Raghav Sampangi

Dr. Raghav V. Sampangi is a dedicated educator, researcher, and advocate for well-being and belonging in academia. A Senior Instructor at the Faculty of Computer Science at Dalhousie University, he brings an interdisciplinary perspective, blending computing education with student-centred and inclusive teaching approaches. His work integrates principles of resilience, belonging, and reflective practice to ensure that students not only develop technical skills but also feel empowered and supported in their learning journeys. As a long-time champion of equity, mental health, and engagement in education, Raghav is actively involved in the Be Well campus well-being initiative and has contributed to community initiatives such as Canada Learning Code. His research and teaching interests span mobile device security and the intersection of computing with social responsibility. He promotes curiosity-driven learning, industry-focused assessments, and reflective practices, along with just a touch of Star Wars references for good measure, helping students navigate both the technical and human aspects of computing. Beyond teaching, Raghav contributes to community-building, interdisciplinary collaborations such as co-leading the first-ever joint community of teaching practice between the Faculties of Computer Science and Science during 2024, and advocating for practices that promote a sense of belonging in academia. Through his ongoing research and teaching practice, he explores the intersection of computing education, Indigenization, and well-being, shaping inclusive learning experiences that empower students both in and beyond the classroom.
Thoughts on Belonging: To belong is to know that one adds value wherever they are, by being their true, authentic selves. With that personal sense of belonging, together we can create and foster cultures of kindness in our workplaces and classrooms so that everyone can thrive.
